The Importance of Vitamins

All my life I have been very interested in vitamins and the role they have in our very day life. The importance of vitamins has been known for only a short time, however, their actual effects were demonstrated long ago. Around 400 B.C., the father of modern medicine, Hippocrates, first advocated using liver to cure night blindness. The importance of vitamins and minerals can't be overstated. Every function in the body is directly or indirectly controlled and assisted by the essential vitamins and minerals. Someone who might not agree with me on the importance of vitamins should just try it for a month and see how much better they might feel. My mom has taken vitamins for years and has not been sick with the flu for seventeen years.

The world of vitamins and, even more so, minerals, goes way beyond what the majority of people are most aware of, even today. Now, with all the publicity about heart disease, Vitamin E is also well known. Proper food consumption should be accompanied by the right vitamins and minerals. Vitamins serve as buffers in the event that your diet does not meet your daily requirements fully. Arm yourself with the proper knowledge with regards to how we can greatly benefit from the various vitamins and minerals that we can find in our daily food intake. The production of serotonin and dopamine as well as the maintaining of chemical balance within the brain is a something that can be well regulated with the proper intake of the available nutrients.

You can find information about individual nutrients on specific minerals and vitamins, When having vitamin suplements is important to understand that each of these formulas contains different amounts of necessary nutrients, vitamins, and minerals specific to that person's individual need. When taking daily vitamin supplements, it's good to know which ones help which parts of the body. For example: Calcium (Ca) and vitamin D play critical roles in bone mineralisation as well as generally being key nutrients in health. All living cells require Ca to survive, with the majority (99%) of Ca being found in bones and teeth and the remainder in soft tissues and body fluids. They also amplify the breach which involves our bodies' nutritional requirements and the vitamins and minerals that are not always accessible within our meals. Recent research indicates that vitamins and minerals play a much larger role than simply providing a solid foundation for overall good health.

Ideal levels of health, can only be achieved through the help of various vitamins and minerals that we need to take in order to keep a healthy and sound mind. In fact research show that certain vitamins are very important to brain function as well as to help maintain the brain's good health. There are several vitamins and minerals that directly influence tense system functioning and health, and it is important to see to it that these are consumed at satisfactory levels. The Vitamin B complex is one of the most important of the vitamins that influence the health and performance of the nervous system, as it is members of this powerful group that are responsible for the creation of some of the most basic structures within the tense system. Along with Vitamin A and Vitamin E, Zinc is a mineral that helps people in regulating their thyroid hormones.

To resume and conclude, you need to keep in mind that intake of proper amount of vitamins and minerals is very essential. There are many minerals and vitamins that your body requires every day in order to function at peak efficiency.

What is Stevia?

Sweet Lucee commented a great account regarding the many health benefits of the stevia leaves: antioxidants, its uses as a sweetener, its effects on lowering blood pressure and many more. Her comment was very informative that it prompted me to write a post about it.

Below is an excerpt of her comment"

"What is Stevia?

Stevia is one of the most health restoring plants on earth. What whole leaf Stevia does both inside the body and on the skin is incredible. Native to Paraguay, it is a small green plant bearing leaves which have a delicious and refreshing taste that can be 30 times sweeter than sugar. Besides the intensely sweet glycosides (Steviosides, Rebaudiosides and a Dulcoside), various studies have found the leaf to contain proteins, fiber, carbohydrates, iron, phosphorus, calcium, potassium, sodium, magnesium, zinc, rutin (a flavonoid), true vitamin A, Vitamin C and an oil which contains 53 other constituents. Quality Stevia leaves and whole leaf concentrate are nutritious, natural dietary supplements offering numerous health benefits.

Stevia is the sweetener of the future...."

The Importance of Antioxidants to Exercise

Just how important are the positive effects of antioxidants like quercetin in our body when we exercise?

...A $1.6 million grant from Coca-Cola and Quercegen Pharma to study the effects of quercetin in 1,000 subjects.

...Nieman's team proved that quercetin can reduce illness, boost immunity and even maintain mental performance when subjects exercise to the point of exhaustion.

...The U.S. Department of Defense gave Nieman's team $1 million in 2005 to study quercetin in humans.

Cold Tea Drinks

Cold drink manufacturers are quick to grab the market for the antioxidant revolution. Many health benefits for antioxidants are being published and the public is getting aware of what good antioxidants can do to our health.

Green tea cold drinks flavored with fruit juices are common these days. They are widely available and are easy to find in the grocery shelves. Popular flavors are apple and lemon but other flavors are also available such as strawberry, peach and even pomegranate.

EGCG(epigallocatechin gallate) is a major component of green tea and has a multitude of antioxidant benefits. However, only a small amount is absorbed by our body but combining it with citrus juices can multiply the amount absorbed many times. See my earlier post: How To Absorb More Antioxidants From Green Tea. Having this in mind, lemon flavored green tea cold drinks may be the best choice if you want more antioxidants absorbed by your body.

Cheese Packed with Antioxidants

Last month, the Dairy Farmers of America(DFA) announced new antioxidant laden cheese products by Borden Essentials. Other important ingredients of cheese are calcium, zinc, phosphorus vitamins B2 and vitamins B12. The added antioxidants brings cheese to a new level of nutrition.

How Our Body Benefits From Antioxidants

Every second we are exposed to oxidative stress caused by free radicals from our environment. Pollutions, toxins in food, irregular exercise and most importantly our own metabolic processes. Introducing antioxidants into our bodies help in neutralizing these free radicals and strengthen our immune system as well.

Who Can Benefit From Cheese With Antioxidants?

I love cheese and so are other millions of people. More than 9 billion pounds of cheese are manufactured yearly in the United States. That would mean that a large portion of Americans eat this delightful food. With this new product by Borden Essentials, cheese lovers can enjoy eating this food with the extra benefit of antioxidants.

More Food Products Should Be Manufactured With Antioxidants

Other companies should follow suit in adding antioxidants to the ingredients of their products. Junk foods are very popular, can antioxidants be added to these types of food? What do you think?
