Super Fruit Claims Weight Loss Miracle

By: Jim Mackey

There are often new and exciting discoveries that show us items that we wonder how we ever lived without them. This can be especially true when considering weight loss. Certain types or systems of exercise can be part of that group. Certain diets can also fit the bill. And every once in a while a new fruit, vegetable, drug or plant comes along that's considered a breakthrough. Green tea, hoodia, ephedra and leptoprin are just a few that have gotten a lot of buzz lately.

Another berry that has been receiving rave reviews recently is acai. Acai is a fruit that grows on acai palm trees in the rain forests of Brazil. It has been described as tasting like a blend of berries and chocolate. Most grocery stores probably won't carry acai, but your local health food store should.

Acai has been listed by some doctors as nature's energy fruit. Acai has actually been shown in some studies to be one of the most nutritious and powerful foods in the world. But you might be wondering how exactly a berry is supposed to help you reach weight loss goals. Well some of the benefits of acai include the fact that the fatty acid content in acai resembles that of olive oil, and is rich in monounsaturated oleic acid. Another great benefit is that acai pulp helps fight premature aging. Most people want to keep themselves young as long as they possibly can, so this is a great benefit. Another great benefit of acai is that there is a significant amount of dietary fiber within the pulp. Dietary fiber helps aid in digestion as well as helping you feel full.

Although there is some valuable information available regarding acai, there are also a lot of false promises. Be sure to thoroughly investigate some of the claims that you might find on this. Losing weight can be difficult enough without having to operate on false information. That will only complicate your journey and keep you from reaching your goals. Another important step in your weight loss journey is knowledge. The more information you have about certain foods, products and exercises, the better you'll be able to apply that knowledge and get the most out of your efforts. Incorporating acai into your diet will certainly be beneficial to your health, but that alone is not going to get you to your weight loss goals. Eating the right foods is only part of the equation. You must also get the proper exercise and eat properly. Many people are looking for a quick fix to weight loss. The problem with that is it's not realistic.

Jim Mackey is a renowned dietician. He has been advising people on how to maintain a proper diet and how to lose those extra calories. If you want to know more about Diet, Weight lose, Acai, Diabetic diet and Diet plans you can visit www.dietsinreview.com

Alpha Lipoic Acid- The Anti Aging Antioxidant

By: GiGi Konwin

The best line of defense in your anti aging program is a powerful antioxidant. Alpha Lipoic Acid is the newcomer in the field, but promises to be one of the most important contenders. We need antioxidants to fight off the effects of stress, pollution and bad diets.

Although Alpha lipoic acid has been known since the 1950s, it was originally thought to be a vitamin and wasn't classified as an antioxidant until 1988.

All antioxidants basically work the same - they are chemicals that get rid of free radicals -- destructive chemicals produced by the body and thought to contribute to aging and ailments ranging from heart disease to stroke.

What's Different About Alpha Lipoic Acid?

Alpha Lipoic Acid is the only antioxidant that is soluble in water AND fat. It can go into all cell parts. It's the only antioxidant that can reach the brain.

It is a metabolic antioxidant, which means it is important for cell metabolism or the energy of the cell.

The body actually makes enough alpha-lipoic acid for cell metabolism, however it acts as an antioxidant only when there is an excess of it and it is in the "free" state in the cells. There is little free alpha-lipoic acid circulating in your body, unless you consume supplements.

When taken orally, it is quickly absorbed. It then changes to it's most potent form, dihydrolipoic acid.

What Are The Benefits of Alpha Lipoic Acid?

*It is currently utilized in Europe to treat peripheral nerve degeneration (neuropathy) resulting from diabetes. *It helps make Vitamin C and Vitamin E work better. *It is used to treat and detox the liver. *Protects and repairs cells. *Scientists are discovering it may be helpful in treating or preventing cataracts, atherosclerosis, strokes and heart attacks, and memory and brain function.

What's the Best Form of Alpha Lipoic Acid?

Actually, there are two forms of Alpha Lipoic Acid and if you're not vigilant, you could be taking the wrong form. Most supplements are selling a type of Lipoic Acid that consists of BOTH forms of the antioxidant, called S and R. You should be looking for R - Lipoic Acid which is the only form of lipoic acid that your body synthesizes and can safely metabolize. The label should state that it is ONLY R-Lipoic Acid. Otherwise, you are probably getting the blend, which is only 50% of the R type.

Are there Any Side Effects?

Alpha Lipoic Acid seems to have very few side effects. The recommended dosage is between 50 - 100 mg per day. Higher doses can result in nausea and upset stomach.

Alpha lipoic acid may benefit blood sugar control, so people with diabetes who are taking medication to lower blood sugar should only take it under their physician's supervision.

Animal studies indicate that alpha lipoic acid may alter thyroid hormone levels, so it could theoretically have the same effect in humans. People taking thyroid medications such as levothyroxine should be monitored by their healthcare provider.

Of course, you should consult with your doctor before taking supplements. It is wise to be tested for hormone and vitamin deficiencies first.

Atkins Diet - Increase Your Heart Attack Risk?

by Rebecca Prescott

If you're an Atkins diet fan, are you one of the 30% of people whose bad cholesterol levels on the diet can cause serious problems for your heart health? Find out the story of one man who went from having a 4% chance of having a heart attack before the Atkins diet.

Critics of the Atkins diet have always questioned it's health validity. When Dr Atkins was called before a Senate committee headed by George McGovern, he was forced to admit that pregnant women following his low carb diet would suffer fetal damage to their unborn babies.

Studies since have found that long term, Atkins dieters do not lose weight more quickly, or keep it off more, over a twelve month period as compared to people following other diets. The initial weight loss is mostly fluid, not fat as is often claimed.

And whilst the high levels of protein and fats, and extremely low level of carbohydrates, appeals to some people's tastes, for most, it's unappetizing and doesn't produce a feeling of well being. As such, it becomes difficult to follow for long periods. Yet it is sold as a 'way of life', rather than a diet.

Most seriously, questions raised by Atkins's death, and the state of his heart health as revealed in the medical report after his death, seemed to give credibility to his critics.

Officially, Atkins died as a result of slipping on an icy pavement near his office. But his medical report revealed that he had a history of heart attacks, hypertension, and congestive heart failure. His wife explained the heart problems as a result of a virus they both contracted in Turkey.

Whether or not this is true, other evidence has since emerged that indicates Atkins diet is not good for the heart after all.

One recent study at Oxford University followed 19 people over a two week period. When they followed a diet high in fat and low in carbs, it was found that the energy stored in their heart was reduced by an average of 16%. In some people, this reduction was as high as 30%. On top of this, whilst they were on this diet, these people's hearts were unable to relax as easily. These changes reverted back to normal two weeks after they went back to a normal diet.

Jody Goran's experience was much worse. A 50 year old, he tried the Atkins diet and lost weight. He stayed on it for two years, but in October, 2003 he started having chest pains. He went to the doctor straight away, and they found that one of his main arteries was 99% blocked. He was not far away from having a fatal heart attack, and had to have surgery straight away.

Yet, 6 months before he'd started the Atkins diet, his check up revealed a very healthy heart. He had clean, unblocked arteries, and a 96% chance that he would NOT have a heart attack within the next 5 years. After following the Atkins diet for 2 years, not only was one of his main arteries blocked 99%, but his cholesterol had risen from 146 to 215. Just after the angioplasty, his cholesterol levels fell back to 209. But it wasn't until he discontinued the diet completely that his cholesterol levels returned to 146.

According to a report in The Weekend Australian Magazine, Atkins even acknowledged that in as many as 30% of dieters, higher levels of the 'bad' cholesterol can cause potentially serious heart problems. The same article does state that in others, the 'bad' cholesterol levels will lower, but 30% is a significant number. And there are other, healthier ways to lower cholesterol.

Overall, the questions and potentially serious side effects, quite apart from the bad breath and constipation, make this a highly questionable long term approach to weight control.

Microdermabrasion - Acne Scar Treatment

By: Juliet Cohen

Acne scar is the trail of traumatic skin disorder acne which often flares up in our adolescence. In many cases adults too become the victim of this skin disease which often turn into severe acne lesions and eventually leaves us with unsightly blotches. Doctors throughout the world make use of numerous treatment procedures for dealing with different types of acne scars. Microdermabrasion is a simple noninvasive healing process which is mainly applied to aid mild surface acne scar. Microdermabrasion works by exfoliating the top layer of the damaged scarred skin thereby allowing the fresh skin layer to appear from below. This hand held system sprays a stream of aluminum oxide microcrystals onto the surface of the acne scar. This gently abrades the top layer of the skin leaving a brand new fresh layer underneath. This nonsurgical cosmetic method removes the very surface cells of the skin and therefore never causes any wound to the skin. This treatment process takes about twenty to thirty minutes and the mostly a gap of two weeks is preferred between two treatment sessions.

The entire procedure promotes the biological production of new cells deep beneath the dermal layer of the skin and stimulates the natural production of dermal collagen, improving the natural tone and appearance of the skin. Nevertheless this method does have little or no impact over the structural modification of the deep acne scars. This is a safe and quick treatment process for acne scar removal which is proven to be effective for all colors and types of skin. With the help of this procedure we can easily assuage or completely mitigate several skin conditions. This could be beneficial for anyone for many reasons. Microdermabrasion needs a series of treatments before you could get the optimum result for your mild acne scars. Depending on the condition of your skin a professional skin specialist could suggest you the required number of treatment sessions and would help you to achieve a glowing healthy skin.

Although there is no firm evidence in support of any adverse impact caused by long-term aluminum oxide exposure; however, WHO has listed elemental aluminum as hazardous dust. Nevertheless experts believe that due to the hardness and sharp edges of the crystals they might cause corneal abrasion and respiratory problems in the patient as well as in the clinical staff. This could be easily averted if the operator of the machine uses a proper mask and the patients are provided with some protection for their eyes. As a precautionary measure most of the doctors suggest their patients to stay away from the usage of retinoid, retinol, or alpha-hydroxy acid at least for three days before and after the treatment process. On recommendation from the clinic providing the microdermabrasion you might use advanced healing products to speed up the improvement of your skin.

Acne Problem-Where Look Matters

by: MICHAEL MOLLOY

It is a very common fact that looks matters in today's world. Often we see that to improve their looks or go for a complete makeover is compelling the youngsters to go to any extent. In fact looks have become so important in the contemporary age that one makes all the efforts to get away with the marks that appear with even a small rash or pimple developing on the face.

It is often seen that the teens who suffer from depression because of their looks have gone through terrible consequences. In the present times looks are given more value than the inner being of any person. Some teenagers can even become bulimic or anorexic because of their distorted looks. Many a time's kids are also seen to be hiding or restricting themselves from social gatherings. All these situations develop in the people of different stages when the pressure of looking 'good' is forced upon them.

The first thing we should know is the true cause of acne. Most people are aware that certain foods can trigger a breakout, but what they do not know is the cause of the breakouts. All acne and breakouts are caused by a buildup of toxins in the body.

All of the acne products on the market today are designed to treat the symptoms of acne, not the cause. These products do not get rid of the acne, like they claim to, and even worse is what they do to your skin. These include topical creams, such as Benzaclin, Klaron and Azelex, as well Tretinoin and Adapalene, to name but a few. These creams are helpful for clearing blocked pores. Some of these substances may have unfavorable side effects and should therefore, only be used on the recommendation and guidance of a qualified dermatologist. Topical creams may be effective for less serious to mild cases of acne.

For more serious cases, treatment may include the use of oral antibiotics, such as tetracycline, doxycycline or even amoxicillin. As with the previous treatment, be aware of each of these medications' side effects. Some have very unpleasant side effects. Isotretinoin is another acne drug that is often prescribed in severe acne cases. However, effective as this drug may be, it can lead to serious birth defects in pregnant women.

When it comes to taking drugs to treat acne, it is highly advised to consult a doctor to prevent any further side effects.

Rosacea or Chronic Skin Redness - What are the Treatment Options

By: Knut Holt

Rosacea gives dilated blood vessels and inflammation in the skin. The skin is often also infected by bacteria. Most often the face is attacked and especially the convex surfaces of the face. Sometimes also the eyes or other body parts are affected. Rosacea may begin early, but distinct and serious symptoms usually develop as an individual gets older.

WHAT SYMPTOMS ARE SEEN BY ROSACEA

The primary symptoms of rosacea are the following. All the symptoms may not be present always.

- Permanent redness in the skin. This redness can get better or worse periodically.
- Flushing or redness that comes and disappears periodically.
- Telangiectasia - This is a distinct widening of small blood vessels in an area.
- Papules - Small dome-shape spots filled with fluid, often group wise.
- Skin areas with rosasea symptoms often get infected, and the infection worsens the symptoms.
- Pustules or pimples – Sometimes infection makes the papules develop into real pimples. However, if the pimples appear in a hair follicle stuffed with sebum (comedones), they are a symptom of acne, and not rosacea. Pimples from acne and rosacea may exist together.
Rosacea also implies secondary symptoms that are caused by the primary symptoms, or appear later than the primary ones.
- Burning or stinging
- Placks - elevated red areas
- Scaling, often associated with burning or stinging
- Dry skin, often occurring before scaling
- Edema coming in areas that already has been red for some time
- Symptoms from the eyes like: Redness, itching, burning, corneal damage
- Thickening of the skin, or lumps in the skin
- Distended hair follicles
- Rosacea in other places than the face

WHAT CAUSES ROSACEA

The exact causes are not known, but some people seem to inherit the tendency of developing rosacea. People that blush very often seem to develop rosacea more easily. Therefore rosacea may be caused by blood vessels that dilate too easily upon stimulation, and eventually become permanently dilated.

The following types of stimulation may cause worsening of the rosacea symptoms: heat, hot baths, strenuous exercise, sunlight, wind, very cold temperatures, hot or spicy foods and drinks, alcohol consumption, menopause, emotional stress, prolonged use of topical steroids on the skin.

HOW IS ROSACEA TREATED

Traditional medicine does not have any treatment for the basic processes of rosacea, such as redness and the blood vessel extention.
Laser treatment may be used to take away dilated blood vessels or skin irregularities by rosacea. The laser light heats and destroys the dilated blood vessels.

When infection is a part of the disease, and papules or pustules occur, rosacea is treated with antibiotics, usually applied directly on the skin, for example metronidazole. Oral treatment may also be used by severe rosacea, for example with: Tetracycline, minocycline, erythromycin, and doxycycline.

By pimple formation, you can also use rinsing skin cleansers in the same way as by acne.

On the market you can find several alternative medicines, mostly topical creams, to treat rosacea. These often contain natural oils, herbal extracts, vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants that alleviate inflammation and stimulate skin healing. They may also contain mild antiseptic agents to treat bacterial infection.

Vanilla Jasmine Tea - Popular flavored brew

By: ginfop9

If you have been looking for a new type of tea to try as iced tea for your summertime drinking, look no further than one of the quality varieties of Vanilla Jasmine that are available. Vanilla Jasmine has become a drinker's delight in recent years. Not only is this tea wonderfully fragrant and absolutely delicious when iced, but also available in your favorite tea. You can find Vanilla Jasmine in green, black, white, or oolong varieties. This assortment of varieties could be why Jasmine tea is the most popular flavored brew in the world.

By itself, Jasmine tea is quite mild, and very slightly sweet, perfect for serving over ice. When vanilla is added as a flavoring, it makes the drink that much more flavorful, and the coldness of the brew seems to bring out some of the flavor. Vanilla Jasmine is a very natural tea as well. So many of the ready to serve iced teas that you see in stores are flavored, but when you take the time to read the labels - something that very few people think to do, by the way - you see that many of these flavors are not natural in the least!

Vanilla Jasmine is made by carefully hand-picking Jasmine blossoms just at the right moment, which is when they are just starting to bloom. These blooms are then added to tea leaves. But first, the leaves must be properly prepared. Green leaves are dried and steamed, as are the white leaves. Oolong leaves are partially fermented, and then dried. Black leaves are fully ermented. Then, and only then, are the leaves of each variety mixed with the Jasmine blossoms and vanilla beans, plus vanilla extract.

You have four different types of Vanilla Jasmine to choose from, and each one of the different types will have a different taste. You should try each of them before settling on the one that will be your favorite. When it is made from green leaves, it will taste more natural than the other three varieties. The taste will be a bit on the grassy side, a little bit sweet, and very vanilla. The drink will have a lovely jasmine scent that is not at all muted when the tea is served as iced tea.

When you first try Vanilla Jasmine that is made out of white leaves, you might be a bit surprised at the color of the drink. It is very light, almost like slightly colored water, but the taste is nothing like water! You will taste the vanilla and a tiny bit of jasmine flower, and the tea will of course have that distinctive fragrance of jasmine. Oolong Vanilla Jasmine is quite lovely with a subtle taste of flowery jasmine and the rich sweetness of vanilla, plus the scent of the jasmine blossoms.

And, when Vanilla Jasmine tea is made from black tea leaves, it can be a little hard to predict exactly what the tea will taste like. There are quite a few different types of black tea, plus it has a stronger flavor than the other three types of tea. Because of this, the jasmine scent and flavor along with the vanilla will be a bit less noticeable. Black tea seems to make the best Vanilla Jasmine iced tea of all.

You want to make sure that you purchase your Vanilla Jasmine from a vendor that sells quality teas. Otherwise, you will have iced tea that tastes pretty much like plain green, white, black, or oolong tea! The reason for this is that some vendors will attempt to cut corners and use jasmine flower petals instead of blossoms, and artificial vanilla flavoring instead of real vanilla beans and vanilla extract. You want the real thing, especially with iced tea, as when the ice melts just a bit in the warm tea it can weaken the brew somewhat.

Is it any wonder that Vanilla Jasmine tea is so popular? There probably is no other tea on the market that can boast of having so many varieties. And, when you make sure to buy a quality Vanilla Jasmine tea, you can reuse the leaves and infuse them several more times and still get a wonderful tasting drink. That makes this tea quite a good value for the tea lover.

To prepare Vanilla Jasmine as delicious iced tea for the summertime pleasure of yourself and your guests is not at all difficult! Decide how many glasses that you want to serve, as this will determine how much tea you will use. Generally, for one glass of iced tea, you will want to use around 2 teaspoons of loose leaves, remembering that the ice will dilute the brew somewhat. You will brew the tea just like you do when you are making hot tea. Began by bringing some fresh water to a boil in your kettle, and warm up your pot with some hot purified water.

Once the water is hot enough, pour out the hot water from your teapot, and add the loose leaves. Depending on the type of tea you are using, you will need a certain temperature of water and different brewing times as well. Black Vanilla Jasmine needs the hottest water. It should be boiling, and you should steep the brew anywhere from 4 to 5 minutes. Green Vanilla jasmine should not be brewed with boiling water, as it can make the brew a bit bitter. White and Oolong Vanilla jasmine teas can stand for the water to be a bit hotter than that for the green tea, but not boiling hot! Let white steep for around 6 to 8 minutes, and oolong for 2 to 3 minutes.

When the brew has finished steeping, remove the infuser. Pour the tea into a pitcher, and sweeten if desired. Pour over ice cubes or crushed ice, and get ready to experience a wonderful summertime treat! There is nothing else quite like iced Vanilla Jasmine tea!

More Evidence That Green Tea Reduces Prostate Cancer Risk

By: Marcus Stout

Only skin cancer is more common in men than prostate cancer. Each year, more than 200,000 men are diagnosed with this disease, and it is the third leading cause of cancer death in men.

But, recently there has been more and more information to suggest that drinking green tea may reduce a man's risk of getting prostate cancer. Studies both in laboratory animals and humans have shown that green tea is a powerful cancer preventer, of both prostate and other forms of cancer.

One study is particularly interesting. This study, reported by the UK Tea Council studied a group of 62 men who were already at a high risk of developing prostate cancer. 32 of the men were given green tea for one year; the other 30 were not.

The patients were between the ages of 45 and 75 years of age, and all had been diagnosed with pre-malignant lesions that are the pre-cursor to prostate cancer. More than one third of men with such lesions will normally develop prostate cancer within one year. The subjects were given no other treatment for the lesions other than the green tea or placebo.

When the subjects were re-evaluated one year later, only one out of the 32 men who were given green tea had developed prostate cancer. In the control group, nine out of 30 had gone on to develop the disease.

The study concluded that green tea's anti-oxidants have the power to actually kill off prostate cancer cells, leaving the healthy cells in tact. Green tea induces a state of apoptosis; a systematic killing off of body cells. Apoptosis occurs regularly in the body, helping to ensure that our healthiest cells are those that survive, but it is rare to find a substance outside the body that can induce such activity.

This is just more evidence to support what researchers have believed for some time now green tea prevents cancer. There have been numerous other studies that have come to the same conclusion, both for prostate cancer and for other forms of cancer, too.

At least one other study has shown that green tea prevents prostate cancer. Another set of research showed that green tea appears to have the ability to act as a scavenger against a substance called Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS). ROS are a form of free radicals that contribute to the development of prostate cancer, when they are produced in excess. The study showed that the particular anti-oxidants in green tea were effective at eradicating the ROS cells before they could turn into cancer cells.

There have also been quite a few studies that suggest that green tea can prevent other forms of cancer. For example, one study showed that women who consumed green tea were significantly less likely to develop ovarian cancer, and that the more tea they drank, the lower their risk.

There are also several bodies of research that indicate that green tea may prevent breast cancer. There have also been several studies showing that breast cancer may even be helpful for women who already have breast cancer. One study noted that one group of breast cancer patients, those with high Her -2/neu readings, were significantly affected by drinking green tea.

Her-2/neu is a growth factor that sometimes presents itself in a tumor. An over expression of this growth factor is a concern for breast cancer patients, because it indicates a higher risk for the cancer spreading and an overall lower survival rate. Drinking green tea appears to slow the growth and spread of the cancer in mice with a high Her-2/neu reading.

Another study on breast cancer patients showed that chemotherapy is more effective when it is administered along with green tea. The green tea appears to increase the concentration level of the cancer drugs in the cancerous cells, so that they have a greater effect.

Green tea has even been shown to be effective in treating skin cancer. Another study showed excellent results in skin cancer prevention and treatment in mice with the use of green tea both applied topically and given orally. The study found that green tea applied topically seems to scavenge and destroy skin cells that are likely to become cancerous before they can mutate. The mice also showed a lower risk of skin cancer when given green tea orally.

So, as you can see, there is a lot of evidence to suggest that green tea is effective at preventing cancer. It is also likely that green tea may be an effective treatment for some forms of cancer, too.

It's clear that we need far more research on green tea before we have a conclusive understanding of what green tea can do and how it works. However, it does appear to be clear that there is much promise in green tea for the future of cancer prevention and treatment.

So, if you're at a high risk for developing prostate cancer, or any other cancer, adding green tea to your diet is a wise choice. Green tea has no side effects, and it may be able to significantly lower your risk of several forms of cancer.

Tea: The Best Green Tea Blends

By: Jon M. Stout

Green tea is fast becoming one of the hottest ways to look after your health. More and more research is surfacing that suggests that drinking green tea may be one of the simplest things you can do to live a longer and healthier life.

Green tea is special because of the way that it's processed. Though it comes from the same plant as black tea, it is produced in an entirely different way. During processing, black tea is allowed to oxidize, or ferment. Green tea however, is simply dried and then steamed or fired to prevent the oxidation process from occurring. It sounds like a simple difference, but it causes some very powerful differences between the two types of tea.

The fermentation process that happens to black tea converts the natural anti-oxidants in tea to other compounds. So, while black tea is a healthy beverage, it is not as healthy as green tea, whose anti-oxidants are left in their natural state. In fact, green tea contains EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate), one of the most powerful anti-oxidants.

Anti-oxidants play an important role in protecting our health. The anti-oxidants created by our bodies and those derived from our diet help to neutralize free radicals. Free radicals are oxygen containing molecules that are created as a by product of converting the food we eat into energy. Left unchecked, these free radicals damage our cells and DNA, leading to aging and disease.

A diet rich in anti-oxidants keeps these free radicals under control. To ensure that you get your daily dose of anti-oxidants it's important to eat a diet that's full of plant products, like fruits, vegetables and green tea.

Research has shown that drinking green tea is especially helpful at reducing your risk of disease. Some of the most positive research includes the following findings:

Long term tea drinkers tend to have a lower body weight and lower percentage of body fat.

Green tea has been shown to be effective at preventing many forms of cancer, including breast cancer, colon cancer and lung cancer. In addition, some studies have shown that chemotherapy is more effective when the patient is on a regimen of green tea along with their chemotherapy.

Green tea has been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease by helping to lower cholesterol and reduce your chances of a blood clot.

Green tea has been shown to be an effective weight loss supplement. The anti-oxidants in green tea combined with the caffeine have been shown to speed up the metabolism and promote the oxidation of fat.

It has been suggested that green tea may be helpful in preventing Alzheimer's disease.

Green tea may be helpful in regulating insulin, so it may be a natural way to help prevent diabetes.

So, as you can see, there are many health reasons for drinking green tea. Most of us in the Western world have grown up on black tea, and may find the flavor of traditional green teas somewhat grassy in comparison. If you find that green tea simply doesn't taste as good to you as black tea, try drinking a green tea blend. When blended with other flavors, green tea can taste quite different than it does on its own.

There are a wide variety of green tea blends out there. It's important to choose the best quality of loose green tea, whether you're choosing a blend or a single tea. Many tea companies will use lesser quality tea leaves when they're blending the tea with other flavors, because they believe the difference in quality will not be as noticeable.

So, be certain that you choose your blended green tea from a reputable tea company to ensure that you get only the finest quality. If you're interested in choosing a green tea blend, here are some very good and very popular ones to try.

* Moroccan Mint – Moroccan mint green tea is one of the most popular blends. This is a blend of one or more kinds of mint flavoring with a green tea base. The flavor is light and refreshing and makes a great glass of iced tea as well as hot tea.

* Jasmine Green Tea – Another popular choice in green tea blends, this green tea is scented with the petals of jasmine. You'll also find Jasmine green tea mixed with vanilla, which makes the tea more flavorful. The combination of the scents of jasmine and vanilla make this jasmine green tea one of the most fragrant you can find.

* Vanilla Mint Green Tea – This is a refreshing green tea blend that will appeal to any tea drinker. Tea artisans mix high quality green tea with mint leaves and pieces of vanilla bean. These two flavors are pleasing to any palate. This makes a great iced tea for the summer as well as an aromatic and flavorful hot tea.

These are just a few of the many blends of green tea available. Experiment with the varieties available to find the ones that you like best. For maximum benefit to your health, experts recommend that you drink at least three cups of green tea each day. So, lift your cup of green tea and drink to the delicious flavor – and to your health!

Organic Herbs such as Organic Tea Reigns Supreme

By: Johanna Myers

Organic Herbs are everywhere these days. When we walk down the aisle at the local grocery store, we are bombarded with various products and advertisements promoting the benefits of organic herbs, such as organic tea. With all the attention and money associated in the highly lucrative organic herb business, how do we know what is truly Organic, are there true benefits or will we find that this is just a marketing ploy to sell higher priced tea?

The first thing to understand when searching for organic herbs such as organic tea is whether or not the organic tea is truly organic. The word organic means many things to many people but in a nutshell it has everything to do with the growing process. Organic tea is grown with natural compost and without pesticides or harmful fertilizers. This process results in a much higher concentration of antioxidants such as polyphones and catechins. There are guidelines in place for labeling these products as "organic tea". There are agencies such as the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movement (IFOAM) that certify that the products meet the requirements.

There are several types of organic teas, each with unique benefits to promote good health.

Green Tea: This is a very popular and widely used organic tea. One of the many benefits is that organic green tea is said to increase your metabolism to reach a healthy weight. Green Tea is an antioxidant which are found to help fights off diseases like cancer and heart and stoke conditions. The only thing to be aware of with green tea is that it does contain small amounts of caffeine, but all in all it has much less caffeine that a cup of coffee.

White Tea: As an alternative to Green Tea, White tea does not contain any caffeine, but has the health benefits. There is very little processing when it comes to organic white tea which means that white tea maintains more of the health benefits such as antioxidants and vitamins.

Black Tea: For those of us who have tried the energy drinks, looking for more of a boost in energy throughout the day, organic black tea is a much healthier alternative. This tea is very flavorful and contains very little caffeine.

Rooibos Tea: This organic tea is not as well known as the others but many cultures swear by its benefits for babies. Many cultures use rooibos tea in place of standard medicine to relieve the aches and pains for babies. For example, Rooibos tea is used to help colic, nausea, sleeplessness and stomach cramps.

Chamomile and Fennel Tea: These are more popular teas and have been proven to aid babies and adults. Fennel Tea will help relax a restless, upset baby which will allow him to fall asleep more easily. In many cultures, adults and babies drink chamomile to settle stomach problems like cramps, nausea and diarrhea.

In the end, organic herb teas are always a better choice given the option. They may be more expensive but that is because the growing process in very labor intensive process and this very process ensures we consume more of essential antioxidants and vitamins we need.

Care for Mesothelioma Patients

By: John Porter

All of us are going to die one day. This is a universal truth. We all are ready for it. But why should we die a premature death? And moreover when we are not responsible for the cause of the death. For someone else’s benefit, a particular section of the society becomes victim of some deadly diseases.

Mesothelioma cancer is one such disease that can happen to anyone both you and me. But records state the major victims come from the worker class of the asbestos companies, shipping companies and construction yards including mines where asbestos is one of the major minerals dealt with. This is primarily a lung disorder that ultimately takes the shape of fatal cancer.

Caring a Mesothelioma patient is very tough. Caring here doesn’t simply mean physical care. A Mesothelioma patient has to be given equal mental and emotional support to fight with the situation. Most of the time it has been observed that the patient completely loses faith in life.

Proper knowledge and guidance

Especially the near and dear ones of the patients must have adequate knowledge about the disease and also know what type of support should be given to the patient. There are doctors to look into the case but they are not available always. It is you who will be by the side of patient in his/her needs.

Treat the patient humbly and give him medicines and food at the right hour. The pain along the chest side is sometimes acute and unbearable. You must have an S.O.S. for instant relief. For Mesothelioma patients, morphine is a very good remedy. But a misconception prevails with the use of morphine and most of us refer it to be a sedative drug with other adverse side effects. Such preconceived notions have to be taken out of mind. Both the patient and the patient’s relatives should have a positive mind setup and follow the doctor’s prescription in an accurate manner. Otherwise you will welcome further troubles.

Well it is known to all of us that the Mesothelioma patient won’t be able to sustain life with this cancer inside the body. But they too have every right to enjoy life till they close their eyes forever. Give them hope and happiness so that they live their life to the fullest even in this short time period. Let depression and despair not make shelter in their minds to blemish the rest of the days they are alive.

Mesothelioma Treatment Options

By Garry Neale

Mesothelioma is a cancer caused by contact with asbestos, a carcinogen. The disease attacks the lining of the lung or the lining of the abdominal cavity. It can be difficult to deal with this type of cancer and find decent mesothelioma info online. This article will outline some of the main treatment options available to deal with the disease. The more knowledge you have about this disease, the better.

Most people searching for mesothelioma info are looking for information regarding the different treatments currently available to those affected by the cancer. The type of treatment you receive for it depends on many factors, including cancer stage, location of the disease, and how far it has spread. It also depends on how the cancer cells look under the microscope. Your age and personal wishes are another factor to consider. Although this disease is very dangerous, there have been successful treatments.

There are three main treatment types for those who have been diagnosed with malignant mesothelioma - surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. Surgery physically removes the cancer, while chemotherapy using drugs to kill the cancer. With radiation therapy treatment high doses of x-rays and other high-energy rays are used to target and kill the cancer. In your search for reliable information, you may have already discovered that in many cases, two or more of these methods are used to beat the cancer.

One of the surgical procedures that can be performed on mesothelioma patients is called palliative surgery, which involves treating the symptoms of the without going after the disease directly. Palliative treatments often include drainage of the chest tube and pleurodesis - the buildup of fluid is usually what first alerts patients to the reality of their situation. After the fluid has been initially drained, it often returns and patients have to undergo more procedures to permanently remove the remaining fluid. The pleural space must be closed to prevent future problems with fluid buildup.

If you want to know more about mesothelioma info, it's important to realize that other procedures are designed to cure the disease, rather than for palliative reasons. The goal of this type of surgical procedure is to remove the whole of the cancer - but take note that with the surgical removal of the cancer microscopic remnants of the disease are always left behind and have the potential to grow back after the surgery has been completed. It takes time, but you have to realize that this is a strong possibility with surgical treatment procedures.

For this very reason adjuvant therapy is carried out after the surgical procedure to minimize this possibility. This method of treatment is administered in addition to the primary surgery to remove residual disease.

For patients in the early stages, a pleurectomy/decortication is usually the route taken to remove the tumor. If the doctors can't remove the entire tumor without removing the lung, the lung will be taken out (this is referred to as a pneumonectomy). As science progresses, there are other options for treatment, including gene therapy, immunotherapy, and photodynamic therapy.
