Green Tea And Pomegranate - How These Topical Antioxidants Protect Your Skin From Sun Damage

It is well-known that chronic exposure to ultraviolet light found in sunlight leads to photoaging. Photoaging of the skin refers to the loss of tone, wrinkling, discoloration, increased redness, and the development of skin cancer, even melanoma. There is good evidence that UV radiation induces the production of reactive oxygen species, otherwise known as oxygen free-radicals, which can overwhelm the skin's natural anti-oxidant defenses. These reactive oxygen species go on to damage proteins, cell membranes, and other macromolecules. The damage to lipids, proteins, and DNA in skin cells can build up over time and become evident as photoaging. The extracellular matrix which contains collagen and elastin also sustains cumulative damage that contributes to photoaging.

Green tea has recently garnered a lot of attention for the antioxidant polyphenols that it contains. Both oral and topical administration of green tea polyphenols in human and mouse experimental models has shown their ability to prevent signs of ultraviolet-induced damage. Green tea has even been shown to inhibit and reverse the formation of skin cancers in mice subjected to ultraviolet photodamage.

Topical treatment of human skin with green tea polyphenols has been shown to prevent the DNA damage that leads to skin cancer. Clearly, green tea is a powerful anti-oxidant, and there is good evidence to support its use in the general population to help prevent photoaging and to decrease the risk of skin cancer.

Pomegranate has entered the scene a little more recently but has generated explosive interest. The juice and peels contain powerful antioxidants, anthocyanins, a group of polyphenolic compounds that possess antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. In a comparative analysis, anthocyanins from pomegranate fruit were shown to possess higher antioxidant activity than vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol), ascorbic acid, and ß-carotene. Experiments in mouse models have shown that topical pre-treatment with pomegranate polyphenols prevented the molecular signs of ultraviolet-induced photodamage leading to skin cancer. Although green tea polyphenols have a head-start on
pomegranate, the amount of research generated by pomegranate in the last 10 years has skyrocketed.

More information related to prevention of cancer and cardiovascular disease by pomegranate is likely to be published in the near future.

Are There Antioxidants in Oolong Tea?

There are antioxidants in all teas-white, green, oolong and black. The anti-oxidants are the strongest in the teas with the least amount of processing, such as white and green tea, which have fewer oxidation processes during production. However, oolong and black tea still maintains healthy amounts of antioxidants, and have a bolder flavor, making them preferred for drinking.

In Chinese teas, oolong has a taste similar to green tea but lacks the grass underlying flavor. It lacks the rosier, sweet aroma of black tea, and thus falls in between the combination of the two. It is usually brewed to be strong, and has a slight bitterness with a sweeter aftertaste.

There are several varieties of oolong tea that are primarily produced in the Wuyi Mountains of northern Fujian and the central mountains of Taiwan. The teas are rolled into long, curly leaves or pressed into ball shapes.

The name oolong is a Chinese phrase meaning black dragon tea. According to Chinese Qing dynasty poems, oolong tea first existed in the Wuyi Mountains, and was named after the area it came from.

There are several processes that the oolong tea goes through, primarily cooling, bruising of the leaves for oxidation, roasting and aging benefit oolong tea. Are there antioxidants in oolong tea? There are antioxidants in all oolong tea, but the amount varies on the amount of roasting, aging and oxidizing.

Oolong tea offers many benefits through the anti-oxidants, and many people drink 5 to 6 cups per day, especially in Asian countries. The anti-oxidants help cell regeneration, and fights toxins in your system. Oolong tea is also good to drink for weight loss, and the processing makes it lighter on your stomach than black tea. It makes you feel fuller and gives you additional energy boosts while boosting metabolism and burning more calories.

The Chinese culture has used oolong tea for centuries for its healing abilities and anti-aging properties. It is usually steeped, not boiled and the leaves can be reused multiple times, unlike green teas, and it gets better each time.

In Chinese tea culture, oolong teas are made with high-grade tealeaves, which are moderately fermented, making them neutral and lower in caffeine. They are considered excellent for lowering blood pressure and losing weight. Fermented teas are also good for the digestive system, are an anti-diarrheic and help relieve menstrual cramps.

Are the antioxidants in oolong tea? There are vitamins, A, B, C, E and K, which all have antioxidant effects, such as slowing down the aging process, boosting the immune system, and speeding up metabolism. The Chinese believe that oolong tea is healing in several ways:

o Increases energy while having a calming and relaxing effect

o Releases excess heat and cold from the body

o Detoxifies the body, acts as a diuretic

o Improves the digestive system by helping colon and bowel movement

o Reduces body fat and strengthens the heart

o Cleans the blood, liver, and lungs

o Prevents dehydration, constipation, and heart problems

o Reduces blood alcohol levels

o Improves eyesight and strengthens gums and teeth

Oolong tea is a healing, relaxing and healthy way to lose weight and have the benefits of strong antioxidants in a refreshing drink.

White Tea Antioxidant Information You Need to Know

All teas contain a high level of antioxidants; however white tea antioxidants are higher than in other types of teas. The high antioxidant level in the tea is caused by sunlight. Green plants get energy to grow from sunlight and chlorophyll, but sunlight can also be damaging to them. Ultraviolet (UV) radiation can be especially harmful to plants and antioxidants basically help protect plants from this possible damage.

Where do antioxidants come from? Living cells of plants can be destroyed as the plants are trying to protect themselves from the harmful sunlight rays. Free radicals are created in leaf cells by the UV radiation in direct sunlight. Animals are born with advanced immune systems that protect them from these free radicals, but plants are not. Plants instead produce chemicals (called phytonutrients) to protect themselves, antioxidants being the most important ones.

There is more to the process of antioxidant activity, such as searching for free radicals (chemicals created by sunlight hitting the plant leaves). The antioxidants attack the free radical cells and may kill them, causing the plants to age and sometimes catch diseases. Free radical activity is limited by the antioxidants. Since antioxidants are present in high amounts in white tea plants, it takes a lot of balance to keep the plants alive as this battle is ongoing.

There are many antioxidants contain in this tea, most from the catechin family, including epicatechin, epicatechin gallate and epigallocatechin. EGCG, or epigallocatechin gallate, is the most prominent antioxidant. Nearly half of the antioxidant is comprised of EGCG and it is a very potent ingredient.
Laboratory tests have determined that EGCG is able to be 100 times more active than vitamins A & C. A cup of white tea is believed to have more antioxidants in it than a serving of broccoli, spinach, strawberries and other healthy vegetables and fruits. This is a perfect example of white tea antioxidants at work.

White tea antioxidants are mostly present in strong quantities because of the EGCG contained in it. EGCG has been proven to reduce several health ailments and diseases such as skin, lung and breast cancers. It also reduces the risk of serious conditions such as stroke, heart disease and diabetes. EGCG can also slow the aging process, prolonging youthfulness and health in the consumer.

White tea is the least processed of all teas so during the harvesting process the healthy antioxidants remain in stronger quantities than in other types of teas. The leaves are comprised of more than 30 percent of healthy antioxidants.

The antioxidants present in white tea help fight off many diseases and conditions, making it one of the healthiest teas to consume. Its preventative qualities are just an added benefit to this delicious choice of beverage. White tea antioxidants are important to maintain good health and reducing health risks.

Know the Power of Green Tea Antioxidants For a Good Immune System

Green tea antioxidants are said to be hundred times more effective than vitamin E. Precisely for this reason it is very popular these days amongst health conscious community. Once you see the herb from health point of view, perhaps you should consider taking it in extract form rather than to take as a drink. Many people may not like the aroma. In fact the taste will be awful if one takes it in decaffeinated format.

All our diseases are due to immune deficiency. What do we mean by that? It is something like allowing weeds to spoil the wheat plants. Free radicals are the weeds in our body. They are the cells damaged and floating around to steal the lost proton from the good cells. Either they have to be scavenged or they have to be provided with a proton.

How cells are damaged? Oxidation is responsible. The oxygen what we inhale that is vital for our survival degenerates the cells. It is like rusting a metal or making a cut apple brown.

If you provide good nutrition to our body, the cells will get regenerated and our immune system will be healthy. For this our nutrition should have adequate quantity of antioxidants.

While all the foods we eat have nutrition and some quantity of antioxidants, there are few substances which are rich in antioxidants. The leaf from the plant camellia sinensis has substantial quantity of polyphenol catechin which is a great antioxidant. There is a bioflavonoid called epigallocatechin gallete (EGCG) present in catechin provides powerful green tea antioxidants. The quantum of the antioxidant in the leaf makes it very popular for good health reasons.

Cancer, arthritis, stroke, cardiac problems, cholesterol etc., are the result of weak immune system. Adequate antioxidants will provide strong immune system and one can postpone ageing, live a healthy life for a longer period.

In dried form, the leaf has 25% of catechin. Almost 50% of catechin is EGCG. In case you cannot relish the aroma of green tea, you should go in for capsules or pills to get the benefits of green tea antioxidants.

While there is no doubt about the antioxidants content in the leaf from camellia sinensis, it cannot be sole answer for proper immune system. One can get synergy out of different nutrition and find a permanent solution to maintain a good immune system provided the nutrition intake is seen from holistic point of view. I maintain a good immune system and lead a healthy life by taking a natural nutrition supplement which has all the nutrition required including the green tea antioxidants from camellia sinensis. I do not need to worry about the dosage etc., because they are added after extensive research done by reputed scientists. You should visit my website and I am sure you will benefit for a long and healthy life.

How to Make Your Own Green Tea Antioxidant Facial Mist

Green Tea Facial Mist:

By now everyone has heard of the wonderful benefits of green tea (Camellia sinensis). Loaded with powerful antioxidants (catechins and polyphenols) that help at the cellular level, this tea has pretty much become a household product. Green tea is also known for its anti-cancer properties. A lot of coffee drinkers are actually substituting it for their morning "cup of joe." Drinking tea is not only healthier for you internally than coffee; it is actually beneficial for your skin topically. Many cosmetic manufacturers are using green tea as an anti-aging ingredient. It helps with telangiectasias (ta-lang-eck-tazjas) a skin condition where tiny blood vessels appear like a road map on ones face.

Telangiectasia is Greek for broken blood vessel. This condition is made worse from any substance that causes dilation of the blood vessels. Sun is a major vasodialator, as are alcoholic beverages and tobacco products. If you look closely at the skin of a sun-damaged client, you will see both large and small telangiectasias and large areas of very diffuse redness, called couperose. It may look like a red area of skin, but on closer examination, you will see tiny dilated blood vessels. A common place for telangiectasias is on the side of the nose. These are caused from years of nose blowing and wiping the nose with tissue. Individuals with high blood pressure may also have couperose and telangiectasia.

Large telangiectasia is normally treated with an electric needle, known as electrodessication. Smaller telangiectasia can be treated by estheticians with specialty creams or serums that contain vitamin K, which helps fad bruises. Some products contain horse chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum), and extract loaded with bioflavonoid, known as vitamin P. Bioflavonoids help to strengthen capillary walls. Grape seed (Vitis vinifera) and green tea (Camellia sinensis) are also helpful for couperose.

As a licensed, practicing esthetician, I recommend that all of my clients make and use a mist as a regular part of their home skin care program. It is as easy as steeping a cup of tea. Boil water and add one green tea bag and let stand. Allow the tea to cool completely and then add it to a spray bottle and let it chill in the refrigerator. After cleansing and exfoliation, spray the green tea mist onto your face, liberally. Massage it into your skin and then spray more on again. Allow it to dry on your skin, and then apply your moisturizer and sunscreen. That is it. You can carry a small bottle in your purse and spray it on any time you want. Chill the tea bags and give yourself a great cold eye compress. This will help to alleviate dark circles.

Your skin will love this. Just remember that you must make a new batch every week as it tends not to stay potent for too long and will spoil. So there you have it. A great green tea mist spray that really works.

Enjoy.

Green Tea - Home Remedy

For more than a thousand years, scientists have been discovering efficient methods for stopping and treating different types of diseases, also illnesses which are categorized among those that may be cured solely by Divine Intervention.

There have been many studies trying to find the right way to deal with the selected ailment and many alternative options have already been presented. Among them are various methods to eliminate heartburn, the benefits of the brown sugar usage, the consumption of corn syrup for controlling nausea and many others. However, nothing can beat tea as one of the crucial efficient home medicines.

Green tea is much more than an ordinary beverage. It is more than a drink that you connect every day with each meal. Besides the everyday use, it has become a remedy for physical illness.

For most individuals who drink it every day, the green tea represents a type of miraculous beverage. It has good effects on virtually all parts of the body. From enamel to shiny skin, the tea has already become a type of basic means for preventing some diseases.

In order to show that green tea has proved to be an important part of an individual's health, there are some of the many advantages of the tea related to health.

Oral Indication

Green tea is claimed to contain compounds that may kill microorganisms in the individual's mouth and therefore it decreases possibilities for the development of problems such as cavity accumulation. As cavities are inclined to halitosis and bad breath, it is advisable to drink tea in order to prevent these issues. With just some tea gargles, you will be able to defend your enamel from developing tooth decay. However, to completely defend your teeth from destruction, you need to reduce or finally eliminate sweets.

The tea contains salutary fluoride, which strengthens gums and enamel and aids to prevent the decay formation. On the other hand, the commercialized green tea mouthwashes are offered in completely different tingling and intriguing flavors.

Skin Indication

In relation to pores and skin illnesses, the tea is claimed to have shown optimistic results in therapy and additional care of skin. Two of probably the most irritating pores and skin ailments are eczema and acne. In case you have problems with skin, like acne or pimples, you should use it as an astringent that may be combined with different components to provide concoction, which is applied to skin with a cotton ball. It is a substitute for expensive cosmetic products, like astringents and toners.

You can choose to drink it as alternative, and the effect will still be identical. In this case, however, you risk taking the caffeine too. Mixing green tea with different substances like olive oil can also help deal with eczema.

Medical Indication

There have been a number of positive data regarding the health benefits of green tea. It has been proved that the day by day consumption of green tea inhibits the development of simple gathered ailments and infections.

The free radicals circulating around an individual's physique make the human body more vulnerable to illness. Luckily, it has been discovered that the antioxidants can help eliminate these free radicals, which may cause horrible cell injuries and produce other negative effects on the body.

All these advantages taken into account, it is hardly surprising that a number of households believe in the fantastic results of green tea.

Its positive effects on health and fitness have been strongly supported by medical results.

Antioxidants Help Build a Lean Muscular Body

Antioxidants provide many health benefits including a speedier recovery from exercise. By inhibiting free radicals from forming during your exercise routine they assist you in building a slender defined you.

When you workout your body produces free radicals that can damage your muscle tissue. You can avoid that damage by consuming your optimal amount of antioxidants about one hour before your workout.

Antioxidants are known to slow down the aging process and help prevent degenerative diseases including cancer and heart disease. Since they also speed muscle recovery after exercise you wind up with more muscle (which burns calories even when you are at rest) and an overall leaner healthier you.

Some of the most potent easily accessible anitoxidants include berries (blueberries, raspberries blackberries, strawberries, cranberries), cherries, acai fruit, various teas (green tea, oolong tea, white tea, black tea, and red tea - a.k.a. rooibos tea), nuts, seeds, red and black beans, purple potatoes, grapes, red wine, cinnamon, and dark chocolate or cocoa.

Do pay attention to caffeine content as many of those teas, and of course the chocolate and cocoa, actually contain caffeine. Keep their consumption to a minimum. Know that how your body uses the chocolate depends on how it is sweetened and processed. Dark chocolate made with white sugar is still not good for you.

Note that you do not need to buy antioxidant supplements. Simply enjoy eating all those luscious foods! In fact, make it a point to include at least one rich antioxidnat food in every snack and meal you eat all day long.

Keep a bowl of berries in the refrigerator making it easy to grab a handful of yummy health when you are looking for  something to munch on. The easier you make healthy foods available the faster you will create the healthy eating habits that lead to a greater enjoyment of life!

Similarly keep  bottles of  a few different antioxidant teas all brewed and handy. Instead of reaching for carbonated beverages (There is no such thing as s healthy carbonated beverage - and that includes mineral waters!) pour a glassful of refreshing tea. In fact, combining teas with fruits makes for a delicious treat. even tastier if you freeze the fruits first.

Your body needs that extra boost to fight the free radicals that invade it via exercise, air pollution, smoke, sun exposure, junk food, exposure to chemicals, etc. Free radicals damage your health by putting your body into an oxidative state which means your body is disintegrating and dying.

In every moment you are either growing ad getting healthier or deteriorating and dying. There is no such thing as homeostasis. Nothing ever stays the same. With knowledge of what and how, you get to choose your health status.

Antioxidant Dietary Supplements and Orac Scores

How do you choose which antioxidant juice is best for you?

With so many antioxidant drinks claiming ORAC-score victory, the task seems daunting.

And if you're watching a loved one dying of heart failure, cancer or other fatal disease, only the best will do.

Choosing an antioxidant drink with the highest ORAC score certainly makes perfect sense, but there's more to it than just the ORAC test.

The 5 Primary Free Radicals

Companies tout their ORAC scores, but what about the other free radicals? Fact is there are no less than 5 primary free radicals with a different test for each:

Free Radical..............................Test
Peroxyl...................................ORAC
Hydroxly..................................HORAC
Peroxynitrite.............................NORAC
Superoxide Anion..........................SORAC
Singlet Oxygen............................SOAC

Different free radicals have different effects on various organs. So apart from selecting a drink with the highest ORAC score, you want to chose an antioxidant drink that also tests highest in the four other scores as well.

Fortunately there's an antioxidant supplement drink that tests highest in all 5 scores

The Colors of the Rainbow

In plants, pigments form the first line of defense against free radicals. While most plants are rich in vitamins like C and E, these nutrients are a secondary line of defense for the "quenching" of free radicals.

Plant pigments (Reds, Oranges, Yellows, Greens, Blues and Violets) are the first line of defense against free radical damage in plants.

The same is true in the human body.

So consuming foods the colors of the rainbow provides the best cellular nutrition, as the more colorful fruits, in particular, are very rich in antioxidants.

The nutrients common to a plant pigment, aids and protects the gene pool associated with its corresponding organ.

One Magic Ingredient?

Many imply that an antioxidant supplement product based on one, or even a few, ingredients and colors can fully aid the health of all of your organs. It's simply not possible.
It's like exercising only your right bicep to build all the muscles in your body. Clearly, all you're developing is a powerful right bicep.

The Danger of Heavy Metals

If you have heavy metals present in your system, free radical creation is accelerated by several thousand or even millions of times. Any antioxidant's benefits you are seeking are likely gone.

The list below shows the various pathways heavy metals enter our system. If you have exposure to any of these sorts of external sources, then realizing antioxidants benefits through a juice is an absolute must for you.
  • Metals-containing products
  • Toxins (environmental)
  • Toxins (generated by Candida)
  • Pharmaceutical or recreational drugs
  • Air pollution
  • Radiation from sunlight
  • Alcohol
  • Smoked or barbequed foods
  • UV light
  • Deep fried foods
  • Cigarette smoke
  • Inflammation
  • Ozone
Flash Pasteurization

Look for an antioxidant drink that uses the newest flash pasteurization process. This scales back the amount of preservatives currently required by over 80%.

The Importance of an Antioxidant Juice

Decades ago the FDA recommended we consume 5 daily servings of fruits and vegetables. Now they tell us to eat 9-13 servings every day. Why? Because our soils are so depleted that now it takes 26 peaches to equal 1 peach from the early 1950s.

But few people have the time and resources to shop and prepare that many servings of fresh, wholesome fruits and vegetables for an entire family on a daily basis.

That's Where Antioxidant Juices Come In

It's possible to find an antioxidant juice that equals a full 13 servings of natural fruits and vegetables in a single ounce, and at a mere fraction of the cost.

With the advent of antioxidant juices, convenient, low-cost health care was born.
Taking charge of your health has never been easier.

When choosing, know exactly what you're getting. Especially when the health of your family is at stake.

I started taking an antioxidant juice in March of 2009 which turned my life around. My poor health rebounded and gave me a new found consciousness about health and healing, longevity, free radicals, antioxidants, antioxidant supplements and living a healthy lifestyle. So much so that I decided to build a website to help others: http://www.antioxidants-health-benefits.com/antioxidant-reviews.html

Maintaining Healthy Cholesterol Levels Using Antioxidants

Maintaining healthy cholesterol levels using antioxidants is beneficial. Integrating antioxidants into your diet and exercise regimen will significantly impact your cholesterol levels and your overall health. How is that possible?

Let's have a look. High blood cholesterol is defined as Hypercholesterolemia and is the presence of high levels of cholesterol in the blood. This is not considered a disease but a metabolic derangement that can be secondary to many diseases and can contribute too many forms of disease, most notably cardiovascular disease. There are many factors in the cause of high cholesterol which includes what you eat, what you weigh, how active you are, and some believe this disorder to be genetic. Your cholesterol increases when the low density lipoproteins or LDLs (bad cholesterol) become damaged by oxidation. When that happens cholesterol deposits are formed due to infection-fighting white blood cells being attracted to the where the deposits are and form foam cells because the oxidized LDLs becomes trapped in the artery wall. This oxidation is cause by free radicals which is a natural occurring phenomenon within the body but it is also helped by other factors such as pollution, radiation, cigarette smoke and alcohol. Despite being referred to as "bad cholesterol" LDLs need to stay healthy to maintain healthy cholesterol.

LDL's require protection because LDL is oxidized only when the amount of antioxidants in not enough to protect LDL against oxidization. The antioxidant formula OPC containing Pycnogenol for example can directly protect LDLs by recycling vitamin C, which in turn recycles vitamin E. Vitamin E is the prime antioxidant that protects LDL. Pycnogenol can also destroy free radicals before they reach the LDL and cause damage. LDL is not bad unless it is deprived of antioxidants because LDLs is needed to transport fat-soluble antioxidants through the blood stream and that is essential for your health. LDL needs antioxidants to stay healthy but remember that cholesterol deposits by themselves do not cause a heart attack. They are a major contributing factor to forming the blood clots that lead to a heart attack.

Incorporating antioxidants are only half the battle, watching your diet will decrease the risk of high cholesterol. Foods high in saturated fats should be limited if not avoided; foods high in triglycerides have to be limited as well. Polyunsaturated and unsaturated fats are good fats that cause the liver to produce less harmful LDL cholesterol and more protective HDL cholesterol. You need to know what you are consuming to avoid raising your cholesterol levels. Exercising is also critical in maintaining healthy cholesterol. I'm not talking about spending hundreds of dollars on a gym membership or purchasing home workout equipment; simple activities like walking, jogging, biking, and swimming for 30 minutes a day is considered good cardiovascular exercises and can also increase the amount of HDL cholesterol in your blood, while reducing the amount of LDL cholesterol bringing your body into balance. Integrating antioxidants into this regimen will help you keep your cholesterol levels under control and reduce or eliminate your dependency on prescription medications and their side effects.

Antioxidant and DNA Protection

Our body contains DNA cells that regulate every function and every disease we can fight without the need of medication. Antioxidants are used to cut down on the oxidation process in our bodies. If we have too many oxidation processes in our body that will not be healthy or good. This is why today we are going to talk a bit about antioxidant and DNA protection. How can we protect these two very important elements in our body and what kind of products can we use to ensure that both the DNA and the antioxidants in our body are healthy, so to speak?

It used to be very hard to obtain Antioxidant and DNA Protection because of the chemicals. We do not have to worry anymore though because of Shaklee. Their products are all natural and safe. When you use the Shaklee products that are certified by the FDA, you know that you are getting the best protection money can buy. By using these products you will be healthier as well as saving money.

Fruits and vegetables are great for Antioxidant and DNA protection. We need to be as healthy as possible. There is a fruit that has a lot of antioxidants in it and that is pomegranate. It is proven that this fruit is very useful in protecting the cells in our body especially our DNA cells. Our body needs to control the amount of cells in our body and this is what this fruit does. Growing of cells is a persistent process in the body, which happens daily in our body. Our body creates good as well as bad cells in our body. If we grow extra bad ones than good ones we could become very sick and unhealthy.

WE usually have plenty of antioxidants in our body but we must get new ones or we will not be very healthy. This is just like rotating meat. If you do not rotate old and new meat then it will go bad. Same thing happens with our bodies. Our bodies will go bad if we do not get new antioxidants in there. Antioxidant and DNA Protection is what our body needs to stay healthy.

The Healing Benefits of Antioxidants

You hear the term antioxidants all the time. You know you need them. But, what exactly are antioxidants? What are antioxidants? Simply put, antioxidants help prevent damages to your cells. They neutralize free radicals. Think of free radicals as toxic pushers, they go around to other cells telling them what to do. They form with the other cells and start to gang up on healthy cells. By doing this they cause pre-mature aging and even diseases like cancer and heart disease. Antioxidants are the superhero that makes sure these toxic pushers don't get a hold of your healthy cells. What are Some Popular Antioxidants?

Your body actually has the ability to produce its own antioxidants, however, without the help of zinc, magnesium and a variety of other minerals, your body cannot do its job. That's why there is an abundance of fruits and vegetables along with other foods that have a high level of antioxidants. Even though antioxidants can be found in tomatoes, vegetables and super fruits like the acai and goji berries, they are also found in cocoa and wine. Some of the most common antioxidants known to man include:

• EGCG (Epigallocatechin) - Usually found in Tea, EGCG has been known to prevent cancer, aid digestion and prevent heart problems.

• Flavanoids- Best known for their anti-viral, anti-cancer properties, these flavanoids are usually present in red wine, citrus fruits and green vegetables.

• Resveratol- This antioxidant is usually found on the skin of grapes, and is known as the secret to staying young. Not only does it stop those toxic pushers in their tracks, it also has the ability to burn fat and promotes great heart health.

What are the Health Benefits of Antioxidants?

When it comes to speaking about the health benefits of antioxidants, the list can go on. It's no secret that antioxidants play a vital role in preventing diseases and help maintain a healthy lifestyle. Researchers and physicians alike are fascinated with the wonderful powers of antioxidants. Some of the most notable health benefits of antioxidants include:

• Improves Heart Health
• Prevents Wrinkles
• Prevents Cancer
• Strengthens Your Immune System
• Helps aid digestion
• Removes toxins
• Promotes Energy
• Promotes Longevity

As you can see, consuming antioxidants is the way to optimum health. However, there have been new advances in the way individuals consume food. There are some companies that are taking our antioxidant activity to the next level. A premiere health and wellness company has actually taking super fruits and foods and infused them with the main source of energy also known as zero point energy. By doing so, this helps people absorb nutrients that go way beyond the ORAC. (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) is the measurement of how much antioxidant activity a particular food has in it. The Zero Point energy resonates with the body's own unique healing power to promote health, vitality and long life. If you want to stay healthy, young, and disease and pain free, it's time to start making an antioxidant rich diet part of your daily life.

Antioxidants no help vs rheumatoid arthritis, lupus

RA is not the same as osteoarthritis, which develops with age or with wear-and-tear on the joints. RA occurs much less often, but is usually more severe. RA and lupus are both autoimmune disorders.

The researchers tracked nearly 185,000 women for up to 24 years. Overall, they found no clear relationship between the women's estimated intake of antioxidants -- including vitamins A, C and E and beta-carotene -- and their likelihood of being diagnosed with RA or lupus.

The findings contradict hints from earlier research that women with higher intake of antioxidants might have lower risks of developing these diseases.

One reason for checking whether antioxidants in the diet would have an effect is that people with RA and lupus have lower antioxidant levels in their blood than healthy individuals. And studies in mice have shown that giving antioxidants helps reduce the type of immune-system-triggered inflammation that's associated with these diseases.

Not only do antioxidants help control inflammation, but they also protect body tissue from potentially cell-damaging particles called reactive oxygen species.

But in the new study reported in the American Journal of Epidemiology, researchers found no link between the women's reported antioxidant intake and their risk of developing RA or lupus. The women were participating in the Nurses' Health Study and Nurses' Health Study II, two large projects that have tracked lifestyle factors and disease risk among nearly 240,000 U.S. women since 1976 and 1989, respectively.

The study had its limitations -- including the fact that it was observational. The researchers merely asked the women about their antioxidant intake and then observed what happened to them over time, so the outcomes may just be coincidental. A study in which participants are randomly assigned to take antioxidant supplements or not, then have their RA and lupus rates followed over time, would provide stronger evidence as to whether the nutrients affect the risk of developing the diseases.

Nor can the findings exclude the possibility that significant deficiency in certain antioxidants might play a role in RA or lupus risk, note the researchers, led by Dr. Karen H. Costenbader of Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.

Lupus -- known formally as systemic lupus erythematosus -- involves painful, swollen joints, fatigue and skin rash, but it can also damage other parts of the body, including the heart and blood vessels. RA arises when the immune system mistakenly attacks joints all over the body, leading to inflammation, pain and progressive joint damage.

Costenbader's team focused on 184,643 women who were free of RA or lupus at the outset and had completed detailed questionnaires on their diets and supplement use starting in 1980 or 1991, depending on the study.

The researchers used those reports to estimate the women's daily intakes of vitamins A, C and E, as well as alpha- and beta-carotene, lycopene, lutein, beta-cryptoxanthin and zeaxanthin.

Between 1980 and 2004, 787 women were newly diagnosed with RA, while 192 were diagnosed with lupus.

Women with higher antioxidant intakes did tend to maintain a healthier lifestyle overall, the study found. They were generally more physically active and less likely to smoke, for example. When those factors were taken into account, antioxidant consumption itself showed no strong relationship to RA or lupus risk.

This finding, of course, does not negate the importance of eating antioxidant-rich foods for one's overall health. Foods high in the antioxidants assessed in this study include citrus fruits, leafy greens like spinach and kale, cruciferous vegetables like broccoli and Brussels sprouts, and red or orange fruits and vegetables like carrots, watermelon and sweet potatoes.

Could Red Wine & Green Tea Slow Prostate Cancer?

This discovery could really begin to lead to major natural advances in the treatment of prostate cancer. While naturalistic researchers have touted the use of red wine and green tea for years as a way to slow the growth or stop altogether prostate cancer scientists now understand completely why polyphenols in red wine and green tea block cancer growth. This timely discovery, was published online in The FASEB Journal, and breaks down exactly how antioxidants in red wine and green tea combine and in effect are able to then disrupt an important cell signaling pathway that prostate cancer cells need to multiply. Why this find is so significant is that it could surely lead to the development of drugs that could stop or slow cancer growth. It could also be used as a catalyst for bettering treatments that are currently available.

The extent of this discovery goes beyond the confines of prostate cancer too. This same prohibiting effect could help aid in the slowing of colon cancer, breast cancer and gastric cancers”. It should be noted that even if further studies show that red wine and green teas is not as effective as scientist first hope, it is a great step in the right direction for an end cure.

Researchers are astounded by the power of these antioxidants and are stating that this knowledge was more than anyone could have ever dreamt 25 years ago. Of course, this is coming from the scientific community. As for those that believe in the power of natural preventative measures, these beliefs and answers have been around for more than 25 years.

It would be a wonderful thing if the those that believe in natural cures and preventatives could work alongside the medical community. This truly could bring about the amazing results we need.

How to Add Acai Antioxidants to Your Diet

There are many health reasons to add Acai antioxidants to your health routine. Stress, environmental pollution, chemical preservatives and chemicals used to produce our foods creates free radicals that are absorbed into our body. Taking Acai berries daily helps to remove free radicals, thus preventing disease.

Free Radicals

Free radicals are molecules that are missing an electron. This causes free radicals to seek another molecule with which to bond. If they bond with a molecule inside the body, they can cause serious damage. Liver disease, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's, cancer, arthritis and some mental illness are linked to damage caused by free radicals. Adding Acai antioxidants to your diet will remove free radicals before they can attach.

Additional Benefits

The antioxidant properties of Acai berries may be enough incentive to add this fruit to your diet. There are additional benefits aside from the natural Acai antioxidant including heart health, immune system boosts and the reduction of stress both mentally and physically. Natural, health weight loss, increased energy and stamina as well as additional vitamin and minerals are a few of the other healthy benefits Acai berry products provide.

Antioxidant Foods

Since the human body cannot produce antioxidants, the body must obtain them from plant-based foods. Many vegetables are high in antioxidants, such as broccoli, spinach, carrots, sweet and hot peppers as well as whole grains. Berries including strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, elderberries and the Acai berry are all high in antioxidants. Garlic, tomatoes, and red grapes can also provide antioxidants. Acai berries are tasty, available year round in its dry or liquid form and easily added to your diet. Powdered Acai berries have an extended shelf life and Acai berry juice can be stored in the refrigerator for weeks. Both are easily added to fruit and vegetable smoothies, Slushies, yogurt and even water. A diet that is high in raw vegetables and fruits promotes good health. Adding Acai berries makes a good diet even healthier.

Healthy Cooking

Eating healthy requires healthy cooking habits. Using garlic instead of salt, herbs like rosemary, thyme and lemon basil will enhance the natural flavor of food. Tea, both green and black, contains antioxidants. Using tea seasoned with fresh herbs to poach fish or eggs in adds additional antioxidants to your diet. Using Acai as a topping for yogurt, sprinkled on sorbet or toast instead of jelly are more ways to enjoy the antioxidant properties of Acai berries. Acai berries can be added to a steaming cup of tea adding a slight chocolate and fruit taste to your favorite blend. These are just a few ways to enjoy healthy antioxidant cooking.

Removing free radicals from the body will improve anyone's overall health. Adding an Acai antioxidant is an easy and tasty and easy way to get healthy and stay that way.

C.L. Hendricks has been a Jill-of-all-trades, become an expert in some and now uses her experience and training to provide web content for many websites and blogs. health benefits of Acai berries as well as woodworking projects are just some of the topics about which she writes.

Natural ways, alternate therapies which have the least side effects are becoming more popular. Take for instance, an antioxidant drink that is being promoted for health reasons. There are many and they are being promoted by brands that make healthy drinks. An antioxidant drink should not be confused with an energy drink. The latter is based on high proteins whereas the antioxidant supplement is has several nutrients that act as speed breakers when absorbed by the body. Well, they are also said to retard or slow down the aging process. It is the unhealthy lifestyles and dietary habits that have made the need of having an antioxidant supplement important. The consumption of even one antioxidant drink every morning improves the overall health.

It is already in the liquid form and the body will be able to extract nutrients from it in greater quantity. The antioxidant supplement works on the signs of aging and on the skin, making one look much younger. They help the body to get rid of harmful free radicals. Free radicals are highly reactive compounds that are created in the body during normal metabolic functions or brought in the body from the environment, such as by exposure to pollution and other toxins. Consuming antioxidants helps the body to reconstruct the cells keeping the cells to perform longer and in an improved way.

They can be consumed as separate drinks. Antioxidants are present in different kinds of fruits like blueberries, cranberries, Acai, Pomegranate, and black currant, purple plum and Black Cherry.

Antioxidants in Chocolate

Dark chocolate and cocoa is derived from cocoa beans which are grown in pods on the cacao tree. Antioxidants in chocolate are from the cocoa beans. They are a rich source of natural antioxidants called flavonoids and phytochemicals called polyphenols. Flavonoids have many antioxidant properties.

Benefits of Dark Chocolate

You may be surprised, as I was, that there are many health benefits to eating cocoa and dark chocolate. Here is the report of one study.

The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reported on the effects of cocoa and dark chocolate on a study done on 23 healthy Americans. That's not a very large study - but let's look at the results anyway. The published results were:

Cocoa powder and dark chocolate may favorably affect cardiovascular disease risk status by

1) modestly reducing LDL oxidation susceptibility,
2) increasing serum total antioxidant capacity and
3) increasing HDL-cholesterol concentrations, and
4) not adversely affecting prostaglandins

Antioxidants combat and neutralize free radicals which cause damage to our cells, and in particular the macula where lots of oxidation takes place.

Dark Chocolate Antioxidant Tips

1) Dark chocolate has much more antioxidants than milk chocolate. Milk chocolate has the least amount of total antioxidant capacity.
2) The richer in cocoa the better. Select chocolates with at least 70% cocoa content.
3) Natural cocoa powders contain the highest amount of total antioxidant capacity.
4) Don't eat your dark chocolate with a glass of cold milk - the milk interferes with absorption.
5) Most of the studies used about 3.5 ounces of dark chocolate a day to get the benefits.

"Eating a little bit of chocolate or having a drink of hot cocoa as part of a regular diet is probably good for personal health, so long as people don't eat too much of it, and too much of the kind with lots of butter and sugar," said Diane Becker, the lead researcher of an 18 month study at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore.

Amazing Arthritis Relief With Antioxidants

Antioxidants are an amazing arthritis relief treatment, since they are readily available, low in cost, and quite effective. They are in all fruits and vegetables. Most people are always looking for that magic bullet to cure arthritis and over look the amazing antioxidants. Antioxidants are effective in many inflammatory conditions such as bursitis, sprains, and rheumatoid arthritis. Since most diseases arise from inflammation, antioxidants can be there to stop the start of disease. But you must used them consistently, whether as a supplement or as a food

In his book, Pain Free, 1995, Luke Bucci, Ph.D. recounts,

"After taking four grams of vitamin C daily for several months, Dr. J. Greenwood reported that he had 'cured his lower-back pain.' He started recommending that his patients with degenerative-joint disease take daily oral does of one-to-four grams of vitamin C. Most patients got relief from their symptoms."

Vitamin C is in a class of well known antioxidants. The basic class of these antioxidants is vitamin A, C, E, and selenium. Vitamin C has also been found effective in many other conditions. You can take 4000 mg or more without side effects. If your stools become watery, then you have take to much vitamin C, so just back off a little to find the right dose for yourself. Take vitamin C daily with your other antioxidants.

You may also be familiar with these other antioxidants, glutathione, glutathione, coenzyme Q10, SOD, catalase, methionine, lipoic acid, and flavoniods. All of these antioxidants are powerful agents and you should be using them in your diet even though you may not have arthritis, since they will help stop other diseases.

So what makes these antioxidants so amazing for arthritis relief? Arthritis is a painful inflammatory disease that is difficult to treat. It is a disease that doctors have no cure for. This is why people use Anacin, Buffrin, and Ibuprofen and even more powerful drug pain killers to block this pain. But, antioxidants are not pain killers, yet they work as a treatment for arthritis. They stop the progression of arthritis and will help to lessen the pain gradually.

When your cells burn oxygen, oxidation, they create a by product called "free radicals." These free radicals are super reactive and look for tissue and other body surfaces to combine with and destroy. Free radicals are also created when you develop arthritis, since inflammation creates free radicals. When one free radical is created, it sets off a chain reaction, creating other free radicals, which go randomly damaging surrounding tissue molecules causing more pain and inflammation.

Free radicals cause cells to corrode and malfunction. They damage cell membrane, DNA, cartilage, and protein. By using antioxidants for an amazing arthritis relief, you can lessen the arthritic effects of pain and inflammation. Antioxidants grab up the free radicals as they are created. They neutralize them and preventing them from doing excess molecular damage. For this reason, antioxidants are a treatment for arthritis, provided that they are used in quantities higher than for normal maintenance.

Use of basic antioxidants - vitamin A, C, E - with one of the power antioxidants like SOD, flavoniods found in fruits, or glutathione precursors can provide you with a powerful and amazing arthritis relief and treatment.

Green Tea Benefits - Uncover the Powerful Antioxidant Effects of Green Tea

Green tea is best known for how strong its antioxidant properties are and how it works in fighting off disease.

While it contains many kinds of ingredients, the polyphenyl EGCG is the strongest one of all and provides a whopping amount of antioxidants. Learn a little about the antioxidant effects of green tea and how your health can benefit from them.

Millions of people are talking about what happened to them when they began including green tea into their diets. You can find testimonials all over the internet, you hear about it on cable channels on television, and you hear people talking it about in the waiting rooms at the doctor's offices.

Green leaf tea seems as though it is some brand new ingredient that has everyone raving when it actually an ingredient that has been used for well over 5000 years.

The antioxidants in green tea are the reason this herb has been able to help so many people in their efforts to become healthier.

Your body needs as many antioxidants as possible to combat aging and diseases. Research has shown that green tea is even effective for preventing some cancers. All this is due to the fighting the antioxidants do against the forces of the free radicals.

Free radicals are oxygen molecules that are out to steal electrons from the outer shells of other molecules. It is a vicious cycle because every time one is stolen, the violated molecule also becomes a free radical.

The molecules in a healthy cell in your body are soon a bunch of free radicals. That cell becomes unhealthy and can even mutate into cancer cells.

This whole battle the free radicals are waging in our bodies is a perfectly natural process called oxidation. This is how we age and this is how we get sick as well.

It makes sense then to make sure that you are protected in the best way by antioxidants. You can have this needed level of antioxidants through taking a daily supplement of green tea extract.

You will have many more healthy benefits from your green leaf tea extract if it is included in your multivitamin. A supplement like this will ensure that you are getting all the nutrients that your body needs to maintain healthy balance.

Look for herbal extracts like black cumin, bacopa, grapeseed, and turmeric in addition to green tea. Making sure that you have the antioxidant effects of green tea is going to help you tremendously in how you feel and how well you look.

SECRET BONUS TIP!

If you want to find the best multivitamin with green tea extract: you need to do your research! Find the supplements that deliver on their promises and you will discover, like I did, that staying healthy, happy and vibrant is not as difficult as some would have you believe!

ORAC Score Ratings and Antioxidants - Definitions and Explanations

"ORAC," an acronym for oxygen radical absorbance capacity, has become something of a buzz word in the world of health food and nutritional supplements. Many products are using high ORAC scores as bragging rights or proof of product superiority. The simple explanation is that a higher number equates to more antioxidant power, but what exactly does this mean? How are the numbers determined, and what does it do for your body? Let us examine all of these issues.

Every human body contains atoms (or groups of atoms) called free radicals. In extremely simplified terms, these are molecules that are missing an electron. They "attack" nearby molecules in order to steal an electron, or bond with them to balance themselves out. The process of transferring one electron to another is called "oxidation." In many cases, this can damage or even destroy cells important cells. Like most things that occur in the body, free radicals have positive uses in the right context. In white blood cells and other pathogens, they can help neutralize bacteria. The problems occur when the buildup of unnecessary free radicals begins, attacking vital cells, DNA, and even contributing to clogged arteries in our bodies.

Oxidation and free radicals are created in the body from a variety of sources: alcohol, cigarettes, pesticides, and various other toxins that occur in our environment. Toxic metals such as lead, which are present in most of us now through water supplies and other sources, greatly increase the quantity and potency of free radicals. It is important to realize however, that even when living a healthy lifestyle, the buildup of free radicals occurs naturally through the process of mitochondria metabolizing oxygen in our bodies. Needless to say, anyone living in the modern world will be dealing with free radicals, and can use some assistance in keeping them in check. This is where antioxidants come in.

Chances are you have heard a lot of talk about antioxidants. As the name suggests, these are molecules that help prevent and reverse the oxidation process, and are able to destroy or neutralize the free radicals. Antioxidants occur naturally in a number of fruits, vegetables, herbs and seeds, and there is now a standardized test from the U.S Department of Agriculture to determine the antioxidant power of any source. Hailing from the National Institute on Aging in Baltimore, Maryland, physician and chemist Dr. Guohua Cao is responsible for developing this test.

Dr. Cao's test involves placing the product (food, synthetic vitamin, juice, etc.) in a test tube containing free radicals. A score is given that directly corresponds to how quickly and thoroughly the radicals are either neutralized or destroyed. This is the ORAC rating, and the term oxygen radical absorbance capacity should make more sense now. This test and score sounds relatively cut and dry, but there is more to the story when it comes to evaluating the actual antioxidant properties of a product or food you are considering.

Companies will use an ORAC score based on dry weight, wet weight, or units per serving of their product. Naturally, many will choose whatever appears to be a higher number. One product may appear to have a higher score than another, so it is important to make sure that when comparing two or more products, the scores are determined under the same parameters.

Dr. Cao, as well as Dr. Ronald Prior suggest a daily ORAC value of three to five thousand units per day in order to see any positive benefits. The average American diet fails to reach this amount by over fifteen-hundred units. Published studies suggest that oxidation can cause legitimate damage to lipids, proteins, and DNA, which is a contributing factor in a variety of serious diseases. The five thousand ORAC united per day mark, according to Cao and Prior's research, can be beneficial in fighting these as well as many other age-related illnesses.

Which Antioxidant Body Cream is Most Favored by Users?

As you probably realize, the cosmetics industry is huge. This is evidenced, partly, by the many television commercials trying to convince viewers to try this or that product. These ads aren't cheap to create or to air but it's worth it to the sellers of these lotions and potions because their efforts are often very profitable. Recently, antioxidant body cream has become a very popular choice for those wanting something to help them look younger and healthier.

Billions are spent every year by people trying to look younger. Some think regular exercise is the answer while, for others, a proper diet is the main focus. Food supplement companies tout many of their products to not only restore health but also beauty. But, while not everyone is willing to go the diet or exercise route to improve appearance, few people, particularly women, would go a single day without using some type of lotion, cream or gel to try to look better.

Some years ago it was discovered that something called 'free radicals', which exist throughout our environment, cause people to age more quickly. Free radicals are the by-product of the oxidation process, which is a common chemical reaction. It's what causes many untreated metals to rust and eventually degrade to the point of disintegration.

In the body, free radicals left unchecked can be responsible for causing cell damage somewhat similar to the rust on metal. But, just as metal can be treated to extend its life and improve its appearance, so can you 'treat' yourself to look better, younger and healthier. The solution is the use of antioxidants.

Here's a good example. You know if you cut an apple in half and leave it sitting out in the open the white fruit will soon start to turn brown. This is evidence of the free radicals working on the cells of the fruit, causing obvious physical damage. However, if after cutting the apple you rub on a little lemon juice the browning process will be slowed considerably. The reason for this is that lemon juice contains antioxidants, called bioflavonoids, which interact with the free radicals, negating their effect.

Using a good antioxidant body cream will have a similar effect on your skin, like the lemon applied to the apple. An effective cream will counteract the harmful tendencies of the oxidation process on your skin and help you to look younger, healthier and more attractive. And, after all, who wouldn't pay good money to achieve those benefits?

And, to help you get a healthy, soft and lovely skin, I invite you to take a look at a product range that has the most active natural ingredients that I have known. The best products to renew and revitalize the skin are found at http://www.NaturalBeautyAndSkincare.com.

Forms of Liquid Antioxidants

Antioxidants cleanse the cells of the body. They are referred to as the scavengers of the body. Antioxidants free our body from radicals. Radicals result from eating unhealthy food and pollution in the environment. These radicals are the main component for cell damage. The role of antioxidant is to repair damage cells, at the same time protect the healthy ones by eliminating radicals out of the body. Don't you know that one of the most basic forms of antioxidants is in liquid state?

Do you eat juicy fruits a lot? Then you might have adequate source of antioxidant in your body. Fruits are rich in Vitamin C that is a form of antioxidants. You might not have an adequate amount of antioxidants all at once but taking a lot of fruits will increase the liquid antioxidant content in your body. Isn't it a good start for a healthy living? Vitamin C is one of the most important vitamins that the body needs. Vitamin C strengthens the immune system against communicable diseases. One healthy way of getting vitamin C is through fruits and juices. Aside from removing radicals out of the body, liquid antioxidants maintain the cells free from any harmful elements.

Cells are the building blocks of the body. Pollution and unhealthy food intake result to the degeneration of the body cells, thus throwing the body out of balance. If cells are not of their maximum performance, the body's resistance becomes weak leading to illnesses. Doctors and those inclined with medical sciences recommend the intake of liquid antioxidants not only among men and women, but more importantly, among pregnant women. Aside from helping the mother's defense against infections, the liquid antioxidants contribute the embryo's cell development.

There is no substitute for a healthy diet. Eating healthy foods and maintaining a healthy diet with exercise and healthy lifestyle will result to a healthy living. In most cases, aside from sticking to the daily routine, with healthy foods and exercise, they make drinking pure fruit juices and eating juicy fruits a daily habit. According to research, people with a 40% intake of liquid antioxidants in a daily basis lessen the risk of having any type of cancer by 40% as well.
Studies made in the US and other highly urbanized countries of the world reveal that the liquid antioxidants have the ability to maintain the desirable amount of water in the cells, thus preventing dehydration and skin irritations. According to the study results, liquid antioxidant is being absorb by the cell, and maintains it until new set of antioxidant elements enter the body. Liquid antioxidant is not wasted once absorb by the cell. Aside from keeping the cell alive, it also contributes to keeping the body at work and intact throughout the day.

Well, it might sound a little bit simple but the hazards are real. And mind you, the impact is dangerous, since the target is all our human systems composed of cells and tissues. At some point, we might deem it minute, but bigger things start from small ones. If we won't take a step forward in maintaining a healthy and fit body, we might end up regretting it in the future when we realize it is already too late and the damage has been done.
